Housing Corp Meeting, February 21st, 2007 Meeting open at 7:56 PM Present Alumni: Shawn Schiffner (chair), John Crane, Moshe Laiser, Marty Krause, Matt Moy Present Undergraduates: Tim Nystrand, Vito Natale, Matt Dado, Deveraj Ramsamy No objections to the minutes from the last meeting. Reports: President • The school would like to force freshman to not be able to live in the fraternities. This will not occur in the 2008-2009 school year. The reasoning is that the school has too much vacancy after freshman move from the dorms into the fraternities. • National has a new CEO, Owen McCulloch and IIT has a new president, John Anderson but we have had little to no contact from either party. Treasurer • Current holdings: $85,000k due to market degradation in early 2008, we had $87k after paying off our debt. • Would like to consolidate several of our smaller holdings (3-4k each) into one larger holding. • Looking into advice from financial institutions (Merrill Lynch, UBS) or brothers with knowledge of the market Secretary • We now have a Constant Contact account and a Website, newsletters have been published. • Read correspondence from Brothers Swan, Tom & Schaffer Undergrad President • National Representative will be in town the week of Feb 25. • The house has rushed 2 spring pledges. • The crash bar on the back door to the kitchen needs to be replaced; early estimates are about $400 for parts and labor. • There are some plumbing issues with the shower faucet in the bathroom on 3rd West. Old Business: Election of Housing Corp Officers Housing Corp President • Shawn Schiffner – motion to wipe ballot passes 4-0 Housing Corp Vice President) • Matt Moy - wins 3-0-1 • Matt Dabney Housing Corp Treasurer • Moshe Laiser – motion to wipe ballot passes 4-0 Housing Corp Secretary • John Crane – wins 4-0 • Dave Fenko New Business: Brother Crane moves to purchase a year’s worth of website hosting from GoDaddy at $3.79 a month or $45.48 total (to remove banner, have database hosting, free web applications and web stats) – passes 4-0 Brother Schiffner moves to purchase a year’s worth of QuickBooks for the undergrads. – passes 4-0 $10k of rent for the Fall 2007 semester was collected from the undergrads. $2k remains owed from the undergrads for Fall 2007 and another $12k for the Spring 2008. Brother Schiffner proposes that we have our next meeting on March 20th, at a pizza place near O’hare. Location to be picked, arranged and a call to be put out by Brother Crane. Meeting adjourned at 9:08 PM Follow ups for next meeting Shawn will look to see if the school’s insurance is up for reduction. Moshe will look into financial investment advice John will create RA and HCVP@iitalphasigs.org google accounts for Moy John will re-activate Google Mail subdomain investigations John will upgrade the GoDaddy website hosting to a paid plan John will put out an announcement for next month’s meeting Dado (UG HE) will provide the undergrad budgets for Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 and a list of outstanding debt owed by brothers. Dado will look into collection agencies provided by Omega Fi. Tim will ensure that a written policy exists and is enforced that will minimize the amount of debt that a brother can carry. The undergrads will entertain quotes and possibly have a plumber with a camera inspect the drain in the pit behind the house.
